Supersized
It's surprising how popular the supersized shoe option is. Following my post on Moonspoon Saloon's collaboration with 90s shoe relic Buffalo that was featured in their last 'Take Me To Your Leader' show, theirFacebook page seems to have been cluttered with questions of "Where can I get those shoes??????" - multiple question marks required.
Well I did say that by the end of the summer, they'd be on my feet and lo and behold, here they are. I didn't take to invading the Facebook page. I went for a good old fashioned email and a few months down the line, here they are along with a few more details about the collaboration.
As suspected, Buffalo as a shoe company is pretty much defunct but they were pretty free n' easy about the collaboration, with the ability to produce the quantities and apply the prints that Moonspoon Saloon wanted. More excitingly, Moonspoon Saloon plan on continuing their line of printed Buffalos with the possibility of a few more special prints coming up for Christmas. Stockist wise, it's a bit of a tricky maze. I was lucky enough to get them direct from Moonspoon Saloon and I did urge them to go online pronto with an e-shop (though we all know how long that process takes...). They do have quite a long list of stockists as listed on their Facebook page. The best bet for getting them online is to look out for them on Eva New York (via Far Fetch) who has bought the biggest quantity of them and I think they're selling for around USD280.
Those are the nitty gritty details. Now it's time to bounce about and revel in the fact that they are on my feet. When journalist Sarah Nicole Prickett first pointed them out to me on Twitter, she also said that they're exactly the type of shoes that I'd pull off. Not sure about 'pulling off' but they are RIGHT up my flatform-lined street, along with my collection of brothel creepers, Prada brogues (and the accompanying ASOS jobbies) and even a pair of DIY raised rubber espadrilles. These Buffalos stand higher than the rest and manage to be light as well so it sort of feels like you're bouncing off a firm sponge as you're walking.
Moonspoon Saloon have taken to them so much that they also feature in their new collection 'Sons and Daughters' where they play with monochrome volume bound up with knots, ruching and lacing going up and down the legs.
As far HOW they'll go on my feet, I've decided that there's a few grades of 'madness', that these shoes can go - not-so-mad, mad-for-it, and madhatter - different grades of versatility in how the feet can bounce about in these Moonspoon monsters.
The Not-So-Mad route means blending the grey spray paint print with more greys which in this case involves high-low versions of Richard Nicoll...

The skirt in itself is Mad-For-It because it's so effing bright. It's a blinding type of neon and even funnier that it's combined with lace.

The Madhatter element here is a vintage Lanvin bolero that had a very long journey indeed. I bought this vintage Lanvin bolero from the now-defunct vintage website TheUrbanCollection but somehow it never made it over due to boring postage problems. Dree Harper, the founder of TheUrbanCollection has since has a little wee one and started Create That Style, her own personal blog that accompanies her styling and vintage sourcing service. I'm would normally be totally against the idea of someone shopping for me but Dree seems to have such a great knack for finding pieces that I got completely mad for that there may well be more Dree-sourced pieces here especially as she has access to all that West Coast vintage goodness that England will probably never see....
